Product description is added to Product Main by default. You can drag it to any position that you wanna show it.

From Product page > Product Main > Click Product description, the right settings sidebar will open and you guys can configure some options below:

  • Description mode: You can choose Description mode here, our theme allows you to choose Full Description and Short Description

1. Full description

When you choose Full description, all the content of the product description will show here:

2. Short description

If you choose Short description mode, you can paste the content of the short description here, and this content will be applied to all products.

If you don't paste any content in the short description box, the short description will show follow the full description. But the length of the short description will depend on the Excerpt length option.

  • Excerpt length (integer): adjust the length of the description.

  • Use Read more: enable the “Read more” button for the description.

  • Read more label: You can enter the string that you wanna show on the Read more button here.

3. How to configure Short description with metafield?

You can use Metafield to configure the content in Short description for a specific product.

3.1. Configure Metafield in Shopify Dashboard

In Shopify backend, go to Settings > Custom data > Products > Add definition

You need to configure some options below:

  • Name: You can add any name here. Example: Short Description.

  • Namespace and key: This is a required option, you have to add theme.description_excerpt key here.

  • Description: You can add any text for the description.

  • Select Content Type: This is a required option, you have to choose Text > Single line text or Multi-line text.

Then click Save button to save all changes, we will get the metafield definition as image below:

3.2. Configure Metafield in Shopify Dashboard > Products

In Shopify backend > Products > open the product that you wanna add the Short Description.

In the product, please scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see the Short Description metafield option. Then put the content for short description here:

3.3. Configure Metafield Short Description in Theme Customize

In Themes > Customize > Product page > Choose the product that you wanna configure the Metafield Short Description here:

In Product main > Description block, on the right side, you will see the option to choose Short Description Mode. After you configure the metafield Short Description done, when you open that product, the short description content will show automatically.
